1. Name of the Division: Thenzawl Forest Division
2. Brief note:
Thenzawl Forest Division was created in the year 1991 with its headquarters at Thenzawl. It is headed by a Divisional Forest Officer/DCF assisted by Assistant Conservator of Forests at the headquarters and Range Officers and Beat Officers at the Ranges and Beats respectively. The Geographical area of the Division is 2046.94 Sq. km and the notified reserved forests cover 316.22 sq.km which is 15.45% of the geographical area of the Division. The forest type found here is Tropical Semi Evergreen Forests. There are nine (9) Forest Ranges of which three (3) Ranges fall within Serchhip District, one (1) under Aizawl District and five (5) fall within Lunglei District.

C. History of the Division:
Thenzawl Forest Division was created Vide Notification No A 11017/6/91-FST Dated 15th October, 1991. The Division actually functioned with effect from 10.01.1992 with DFO, Aizawl taking the charge of the Division. Pu R Rozika (L) was the first DFO to be posted at the Division when he joined the post on 28.09.1992. There are nine (9) Forest Ranges namely Thenzawl, Serchhip, Bungtlang, Buarpui, Thenhlum, Bunghmun S, Chhingchhip, Sialsuk and Mualthuam. The terrirory of the Division covers three (3) administrative districts of the State namely Serchhip, Aizawl and Lunglei. It is bounded by Aizawl Forest Division at the North, Lunglei and Tlabung Forest Divisions at the South, N Vanlaphai Division at the East and R Karnaphully bordering Mizoram and Bangladesh at the West. It is located at the heart of the State with almost all forestry schemes being implemented ever since its creation.

5. National Park/Sanctuary/ Community Reserved areas etc:
There are a number of Community Reserves YMA Parks being managed by the local community and NGOs in almost all the villages within the Division. These are being managed jointly with the community/NGOs concerned under Natural Forest Management of Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA). Thenzawl Forest Division is managing the only Deer Park in the State located near Thenzawl Town. It is recognized as a Mini Category Zoo by the Central Zoo authority under section 38H of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. It was established in 1994 for providing education and awareness and also for recreational facility to the local people through display of live animal etc.
6. Flora:
Common flora of the Division are: Rhus Chinensis, Lagerstroemia speciosa, Toona ciliata, Albizia chinensis, Gmelina arborea, Lengustrum robustum, Bombax insigna, Cordia fragrantisima, Tetrameles nudiflora, Macaranga denticulata, Erythina Strieta, Colona floribunda, Emblica officinalis, Neolamarckia cadamba, Schima wallichii, Ficus semicordata, Artocarpus lacucha, Albizia odoratissima, different species of Bamboo with many species of grasses, herbs and shrubs.
7. Fauna:
Sambhar, Barking Deer, Black Bear, Wild Boar, Jackal, Red bellied Palla’s Squirrel, Assamese Macaque, Capped Langur, Masket palm civet, Leopard cat, Mongoose, Common Rat, Bengal Slow Loris and Hog badger.
