The National Bamboo Mission runs its programme through the State Bamboo Mission. The State Bam-boo Mission is the nodal agency for carrying out all the activities mandated to the bamboo mission. In Mizoram, a state where bam-boo plays a very important role in everyday’s life, the role of the State Bamboo Mission can only be imagined.

Role of State Bamboo Mission:

Û© Creation of awareness through newspapers/television, preparation of

documentary film, sponsorship, etc.

Û© Promotion of local industries as well as local home-based industries

(bamboo ply, solid bamboo timber, handicraft, etc.)

Û© Employment generation for local people, especially the rural

un-employed.

Û© Increase in bamboo forests cover in the state through plantations.

Activities:

Û© Establishment of NBM nurseries to raise bamboo seedlings. Around

15-20 lakhs of bamboo seedlings are produced each year.

Û© Bamboo plantation in forest areas and non-forest areas.

Û© Innovative interventions, bam-boo marketing including exports, wholesale

and retail markets, bam-boo bazaars, retail outlets, participation in domestic

and international trade fair through Bamboo Development Agency (BDA).
